Michael Sorkin

'AS AN URBANIST, LE CORBUSIER IS A FACIST NIGHTMARE' - Michael Sorkin, Mark Magazine No 27

Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye

What do you think of this stuff? It is Michael Sorkin's own design for the Shanghai Main station district.
[ Our urban design master plan, commissioned by the municipality, is for a 77 hectare site in the Zhabei district of Shanghai. The rapidly developing area includes the city’s northern train station - a major hub - and is bordered by the Suzhou river, one of Shanghai’s great neglected assets. This scheme seeks to “com?plete” the district by reclaiming its waterfront; by retaining the vanishing small-scale com?mercial character of its historic fabric; by providing for a rich mix of uses; by adding a thick layer of green and sustainable interven?tions; by specifying the forms and densities of new buildings and street-scapes; and by developing a rich texture of public spaces. ]
After such a quote, You see his own architecture, which evidently 'borrows' or 'appropriates' for Le Corbusier.

The dying art of hand painted murals. I suggest watching the whole video, its inspiring

Tom Noonan Drawings

While studying at the Bartlett School of Architecture in London, recent graduate Tom Noonan produced a series of variably-sized hand-drawings to illustrate a fictional reforestation of the Thames estuary.

Hand Drawings will always be more effective than computer renderings

I don't know how the japanese can reach this level of aesthetic and be so simple.
But, can people actually live like this?

Nanhe River Landscape Bridge by WXY Architecture

"The two intertwined ribbons serve a practical purpose by greatly expanding the capacity of the bridge to allow it to keep pace with Xinjin’s future growth. Embedded in its distinctive design is one path for pedestrians and another for bicycles. The two paths offer pedestrians and cyclists different perspectives and varying vistas along their journey across the structure."

Ridiculous? Hmm a little bit...

The Plus House

Architects: Masahiro, and Mao Harada, who founded the Mount Fuji Architects Studio

"Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the deceptively simple two-level concrete structure has private rooms and a bath on the lower level, and salon and kitchen on the upper. The water for the bedrooms and bath comes directly from a natural hot spring. The exterior is clad entirely in white water-polished marble with surface texture changing gradually toward the outer tips of the blocks from rough to mirror-smooth. The interior is also covered in white marble that reflects the blue light from the south (ocean) and green light from the west (forest." - Tuija Seipell

Some interiors I like I pulled off a swedish interior design website

SNEEZE MAGAZINE

Via SNEEZE -
I really like the way this magazine is formatted, distributed, and...just the idea behind it in general. Here is a text pulled from the site that describes it better than I can.

"Over magazines. No binding? Who cares. Newspapers are on the streets, you skate on the streets, we are physically on the street -- one city street at a time. Over overproduction. Less is more. Less is more because stuff sold by the gram is always more exciting than stuff sold by the pound. Less is more which you can't be over because you always want more. Photos pop! With page size this huge, photo spreads become posters for your bare apartment walls. Each turn of the page is meant to hit you with something unexpected, highly visual, and amazing. Sneeze MEGA-zine! Extra Extra. Skateboarding is and will always be king. Hard news is king. As KRS-ONE states Knowledge Reigns Supreme. It does, so learn something."
